September 2026 Events in Gig Harbor, WA: The Local Fall Guide

Looking for the best September 2026 events in Gig Harbor? This month is basically summer refusing to leave.

The boats are still out. The waterfront is still busy. Meanwhile, the mornings are getting a little cooler.

September brings festivals, food, football, waterfront events, new restaurants and plenty of reasons to get outside. Plus, I added a few fall activities and easy weekend trips from Gig Harbor.

In other words, not every networking luncheon and ribbon cutting on the community calendar.

Just the good stuff.

The Best September 2026 Events in Gig Harbor

There are plenty of September 2026 events in Gig Harbor, but these are the ones I think are actually worth putting on your calendar.

September 12: Harbor Hounds

Skansie Brothers Park | 10 AM–2 PM

If your dog has been waiting for its moment, apparently this is it.

The 23rd Annual Harbor Hounds Community Dog Festival takes over Skansie Brothers Park with food, vendors, kids’ activities and a whole lot of dogs on the downtown waterfront.

At noon, the dog contests begin. Categories include Best Trick, Best Kisser, Best Dressed, Tail Wagger and Musical Sit & Stay.

Trophies are involved. So are bragging rights.

And there is a very real possibility someone’s golden retriever has been training for this all year.

Best of all, admission is free.

September 12: Gig Harbor Plant Swap

Uptown Gig Harbor | 10–11 AM

For anyone who has ever said, “I absolutely do not need another plant,” immediately before acquiring another plant.

The Gig Harbor Plant Swap is a free gardener-to-gardener event in the south parking lot near HomeGoods at Uptown.

Bring plants, plantlets, seeds, cuttings, tools or other garden extras. Then trade with local gardeners and probably go home with something you did not plan on getting.

Beginners are welcome too, so you don’t have to arrive carrying half a greenhouse.

September 13: Race for a Soldier

Tom Taylor Family YMCA | Opening Ceremony at 7:30 AM

The 16th Annual Race for a Soldier returns Sunday, September 13.

The event supports the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation and its work with military members, veterans, first responders and their families.

The half marathon begins at 7:50 AM. Next, the 10K starts at 7:55 AM, followed by the 5K at 8 AM. The kids’ run begins at 10 AM.

This has become one of those Gig Harbor events that feels genuinely connected to the community and the people who live here.

More September 2026 Events in Gig Harbor

The second half of the month is especially busy. In fact, several of the biggest September 2026 events in Gig Harbor happen on back-to-back weekends.

September 18–20: USA SUP National Championships + Narrows Challenge

Gig Harbor Waterfront

Meanwhile, September gets considerably more interesting the weekend of the 18th.

Gig Harbor is hosting the 2026 USA SUP National Championships at the Narrows Challenge.

The weekend brings stand-up paddleboard racers, kayaks, surfskis, outriggers and other human-powered watercraft to the harbor.

Friday features SUP 100-meter sprint races from noon to 3 PM.

Then, Saturday’s distance races begin at 1 PM, followed by a 5K SUP race inside the harbor at 3 PM.

Finally, Sunday wraps things up with the SUP technical course from 9 AM to noon.

Even if you’re not racing anything, it’s a pretty great weekend to be near the water.

September 19: Concert in the Park + Drone Show

Gig Harbor Waterfront | 5–9 PM

Plus, Saturday does not end when the paddleboards come out of the water.

The Narrows Challenge weekend continues with a Concert in the Park featuring Bards of Paradise and The Profits.

Then, the evening finishes with a Peninsula drone show.

Waterfront. Live music. Drone show.

Very hard to argue with that combination.

September 18–20: Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour

10 AM–5 PM | Free

If you want something a little less festival and a little more wandering-around-looking-at-cool-things, add the Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour to the list.

The free, self-guided tour lets you visit working artist studios throughout Gig Harbor and the surrounding area.

You can meet local artists, watch demonstrations and see where the work actually happens.

Even better, you can move at your own pace instead of following a rigid event schedule.

Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour

September 19: The Fish Bowl

Gig Harbor High School vs. Peninsula High School | 5 PM

Few things are more locally Gig Harbor than the annual Fish Bowl.

Gig Harbor High School and Peninsula High School face off Saturday, September 19 at 5 PM at Mount Tahoma High School.

Unfortunately, the Fish Bowl and the waterfront concert happen at the same time this year.

Choose your fighter.

September 24–27: Gig Harbor Film Festival

Galaxy Theatres at Uptown Gig Harbor

The Gig Harbor Film Festival returns September 24 through 27.

Over four days, independent films, shorts, documentaries and filmmakers take over Galaxy Theatres at Uptown.

The festival has grown into a legitimate destination event. In fact, filmmakers and visitors travel to Gig Harbor specifically for the weekend.

You can make this as casual or committed as you want.

Dinner + movie?

Great.

Movie + another movie + somehow you’ve watched six movies in 48 hours?

Also acceptable.

September 26: Gig Harbor Chuseok Festival

Skansie Brothers Park + Netshed | 11 AM–4 PM

One of the most interesting events on September’s calendar is the 6th Annual Gig Harbor Chuseok Festival, presented by the Asia Pacific Cultural Center.

Chuseok is a traditional Korean harvest celebration.

Here in Gig Harbor, the event brings culture, food, vendors and performances to Skansie Brothers Park and the historic Netshed.

Also, APCC is holding its K-Song and Talent Showcase earlier in September. Top performers may be invited to perform at the Gig Harbor festival.

If you’re trying to do more than attend the same handful of events every year, put this one on the list.

September 26–27: Key Peninsula Farm Tour

10 AM–4 PM

Next, take a drive across the peninsula for the annual Key Peninsula Farm Tour.

The self-guided weekend takes visitors through working local farms and introduces you to growers, producers and businesses throughout the Key Peninsula.

It’s also a good excuse to explore a part of the peninsula you may normally drive straight past.

Restaurants to Try in Gig Harbor This September

All those September 2026 events in Gig Harbor also give us approximately 400 excuses to go out to eat afterward.

These are two I’d put on the list this month.

NetShed No. 9

Instagram: @netshed9

Right on the waterfront in downtown Gig Harbor, NetShed No. 9 is one of my favorite spots for breakfast or lunch with a view.

The menu goes well beyond basic brunch. Think creative breakfast dishes, pancakes, sandwiches, salads and seasonal specials.

However, the deck is half the experience.

Grab a table outside and you’ve basically got a front-row seat to the harbor while you eat.

If you’re downtown for Harbor Hounds, Chuseok or a waterfront walk, this is an easy one to add to the day.

NetShed No. 9

Brix 25

Instagram: @brix25restaurant

If NetShed is brunch on the waterfront, Brix 25 is your date-night version.

The intimate waterfront restaurant focuses on seasonal Pacific Northwest dishes, local ingredients, Northwest wines and inventive cocktails.

Because the menu changes with the seasons, September is also a good time to see what has shifted toward fall.

This is the place I’d pick when dinner itself is the plan.

What’s New in Gig Harbor

Gig Harbor has had several notable food openings this year.

And yes, these are actually open.

The Midway

Downtown Gig Harbor | Open Daily

The Midway opened downtown in July and is part cafe, bakery, deli and neighborhood market.

You’ll find fresh pastries, warm sandwiches, salads, coffee and grab-and-go provisions.

In other words, this is extremely useful if your ideal waterfront morning begins by acquiring a pastry before doing anything productive.

No judgment.

The Midway

Couple of Scoops Ice Cream & Candy

5500 Olympic Drive NW

Couple of Scoops opened this spring and brings a nostalgic ice cream-and-candy-shop feel to Gig Harbor.

However, there’s a bigger mission behind all those scoops.

The business focuses on creating meaningful and inclusive employment opportunities for adults with disabilities.

So yes, go for the ice cream.

But this is also a local business with a pretty great reason to support it.

Couple of Scoops Ice Cream & Candy

Ivar’s Seafood Bar

Point Fosdick Drive

After a long wait, Ivar’s Seafood Bar finally opened its Gig Harbor location this spring.

The fast-casual restaurant serves the Ivar’s classics you’d expect, including fish and chips, clam chowder and salmon.

Plus, the Gig Harbor menu includes a lineup of Kidd Valley burgers.

If you have kids with completely different opinions about what everyone should eat, that feels particularly useful.

Ivar’s Gig Harbor Seafood Bar

Where to Watch Football in Gig Harbor

September also means football season is back.

If your living room isn’t the venue, you’ve got a few local options.

Hackers Bar & Grill

Hackers at Madrona Links specifically promotes itself as a spot to catch Seahawks games during football season.

You’ll find TVs, a full bar, burgers, sandwiches and classic pub food.

There’s also covered outdoor dining.

Basically, everything required to yell at a television with strangers.

Hackers Bar & Grill

The Floatation Device

If you’re looking for the official Seahawks option, The Floatation Device is currently Gig Harbor’s Seattle Seahawks Bar Alliance location.

The Float has TVs, drinks and a very casual neighborhood-pub atmosphere.

No pretension required.

Seattle Seahawks Bar Alliance

Finholm’s Market & Grocery

And then there’s the extremely Gig Harbor option.

Finholm’s previously hosted a Seahawks watch party with three TVs and a dozen brews on tap.

Yes, you can apparently buy groceries, look at the harbor and yell at a football game in the same building.

Just check their current social pages before assuming every game will have a formal watch party.

September Weekend Trips From Gig Harbor

Need a break between all the September 2026 events in Gig Harbor?

Sometimes the best local activity is leaving town for 24 hours and then being very pleased when you come home.

September is especially good for these two trips.

Port Townsend, Washington

About 1 hour 30 minutes from Gig Harbor

Port Townsend is one of my favorite easy drives when you want the feeling of getting away without dedicating your entire weekend to the drive.

It’s known for Victorian architecture, maritime history, arts, beaches and that very Port Townsend slightly-weird-in-a-good-way energy.

Start at Fort Worden

Fort Worden Historical State Park gives you beaches, forest trails, waterfront views and historic military batteries.

You can easily spend several hours here without feeling like you spent the day checking boxes off a tourist list.

Fort Worden Historical State Park

Go During the Port Townsend Film Festival

September is also a particularly good time to visit because the Port Townsend Film Festival runs September 24–28, 2026.

The festival includes more than 70 features and shorts, plus filmmaker Q&As.

Port Townsend Film Festival

Stop at Finnriver

On your way in or out, stop at Finnriver Farm & Cidery in nearby Chimacum.

The organic farm and cidery has a cider garden, local food and live music.

Even better, it feels like its own destination instead of a roadside stop.

Finnriver Farm & Cidery

Leavenworth, Washington

About 2 hours 55 minutes from Gig Harbor

September is when Leavenworth starts getting very serious about fall.

You’ll get the Bavarian village, Cascade Mountain scenery and the beginning of Washington’s fall color.

Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival

The Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival runs September 25–27.

Then, the Grand Parade takes place September 26 at noon.

If you’ve been waiting for permission to fully commit to fall, this is probably it.

Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival

Walk Waterfront Park

For something quieter, walk Waterfront Park along the Wenatchee River.

The trails are easy to reach from downtown, so you can explore the riverfront without turning it into a full hiking expedition.

Leavenworth Waterfront Park

End at Icicle Brewing Company

Finally, head to Icicle Brewing Company.

The downtown taproom has mountain views, outdoor fire tables and locally brewed beer.

It’s exactly where you want to be after wandering around Leavenworth pretending you may someday live in a Bavarian village.

Icicle Brewing Company

The Gig Harbor Fall Bucket List

September is also when Gig Harbor starts feeling like fall, even if the afternoons haven’t totally committed yet.

Here are a few things worth adding to the list.

Eat + Drink Your Way Into Fall

1. Get a Pumpkin-Spice Coffee at Devoted Kiss Cafe

Pumpkin Spice is currently available as a coffee flavor at Devoted Kiss.

Grab one to go, then walk the waterfront.

It’s an easy way to fully commit to your September personality change.

2. Grab a Pastry From The Midway

Start downtown with a fresh pastry from The Midway, then walk Harborview Drive.

The new bakery, deli and market is open daily.

Also, pastries before errands should probably be a permanent Gig Harbor rule.

3. Have a Cider and Play Harborcade

Head to Locust Cider for a hard cider and a round of Harborcade.

The Gig Harbor taproom has classic and modern arcade games, pinball and an outdoor patio.

Plus, it works just as well on a rainy September afternoon as it does on a sunny one.

Put These September Events on the Calendar

4. Go to the Fish Bowl

Gig Harbor High School and Peninsula High School face off on September 19 at 5 PM at Mount Tahoma High School.

Few things are more locally Gig Harbor than Fish Bowl rivalry.

5. Catch the Narrows Challenge Concert + Drone Show

On September 19, head to the waterfront for the Concert in the Park from 5–9 PM.

Bards of Paradise and The Profits are performing.

Then, the night finishes with a Peninsula drone show.

6. Spend a Day on the Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour

The Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour runs September 18–20 from 10 AM to 5 PM.

It’s free and self-guided, so you can visit working artist studios at your own pace.

Even better, you get to see the spaces where local artists actually create their work.

7. Take the Key Peninsula Farm Tour

On September 26 and 27, head across the peninsula for the Key Peninsula Farm Tour.

The self-guided event runs from 10 AM to 4 PM and takes visitors through working local farms.

It’s also a good excuse to explore a part of the peninsula you may not normally stop to see.

Do Something Outside

8. Kick Off Pumpkin Season at Maris Farms

Maris Farms Fall Fest begins September 26 and runs on select dates through October 31.

You’ll find a pumpkin patch, corn maze and more than 40 fall activities.

Basically, this is where we stop pretending summer is still happening.

9. Hike Sehmel Homestead Park

Wait until the leaves start changing, then head to Sehmel Homestead Park.

The 98-acre park has about four miles of trails through forests, wetlands and meadows.

It’s open from 7 AM to dusk.

10. Walk or Bike the Cushman Trail

A crisp September morning is one of the best times to use the Cushman Trail.

The paved regional trail runs nearly 6.2 miles through Gig Harbor.

You can walk the whole thing, bike it or use one section when you just need to get outside for an hour.

Put This October Event on Your Calendar Now

11. Go to the Scarecrow Festival

Technically, this one is October.

But you’re going to want it on the calendar now.

The Scarecrow Festival returns to Sehmel Homestead Park on October 3 beginning at 11 AM.

Expect local vendors, kids’ activities, inflatables and the legendary pumpkin launcher.

Because apparently launching pumpkins through the air is a legitimate Gig Harbor fall tradition.

I’m not arguing with it.

If You Only Have One Weekend for September 2026 Events in Gig Harbor

With so many September 2026 events in Gig Harbor, choosing one weekend is surprisingly difficult.

If I had to pick, September 18–20 has a pretty strong argument.

You’ve got the USA SUP National Championships and Narrows Challenge happening on the water.

Meanwhile, the Open Studio Tour is happening throughout the area.

Then, Saturday evening gives you the waterfront concert and drone show.

However, September 24–27 is right behind it.

You could catch the Gig Harbor Film Festival at Uptown, then head downtown Saturday for Chuseok at Skansie.

There really isn’t a bad choice.

A Local Tip for September in Gig Harbor

September is still very much waterfront season here.

So, if you’re heading downtown for Harbor Hounds, the paddle races, Chuseok or another waterfront event, give yourself extra time for parking.

Also, don’t treat the event as the entire outing.

Walk Harborview Drive. Grab coffee. Have lunch. Wander toward the marina.

Then sit by the water for a while.

That’s kind of the point of living here.

If you’re new to the area, you can also explore more of my Gig Harbor real estate and local guides while you’re here.

Thinking About Moving to Gig Harbor?

Whether you live here or you’re visiting, September 2026 events in Gig Harbor are a pretty good example of what makes this community fun once summer starts winding down.

But visiting Gig Harbor and choosing where to live here require very different information.

Your neighborhood changes your commute, your relationship with the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, your proximity to downtown, utilities, schools, property type and how often you’re realistically going to say, “Let’s just run downtown.”

Before falling in love with a house based entirely on listing photos and the little map on Zillow, spend some time learning about Gig Harbor’s different neighborhoods.

If you’re considering one of the area’s best-known golf course communities, start with my Canterwood neighborhood guide.

Already own a home here?

Then read my guide to selling a home in Gig Harbor before deciding what to do next.

I’m Carly Grundmann, a Gig Harbor real estate broker, marketer and longtime real estate investor. I’ve personally been on the buying and selling side of more than 100 real estate deals, so I tend to look at properties, neighborhoods and decisions a little differently.

Around here, you’ll find plenty of real estate strategy.

You’ll also find local Gig Harbor guides that have absolutely nothing to do with buying a house.

Sometimes you just need to know where the dog festival is.
